Budweiser Clydesdales touring spring-training stadiums

The Republic | azcentral.com
You have four more chances to see the mighty and majestic Budweiser Clydesdales, starting Thursday, March 26, at Salt River Fields.

Few would be impressed by a wagon with eight horsepower. But what if that wagon was associated with beer, and the horses are about 2,000 pounds each?

Budweiser is bringing its famous Clydesdales to spring training for a five-stadium tour that began Wednesday in Peoria. Fans are invited to take photos, but before you get close for a selfie, know that these horses stand 6 feet tall at the shoulder and are much larger than they appear on the small screen.

Each stop through Sunday features a full hitch, which is horse-speak for the regulation team of eight Clydesdales, just as you see in the commercials. The horses and wagon measure 300 feet from nose to end and weigh about 12 tons.

The St. Louis brewery has been inextricably linked with the Clydesdales since April 7, 1933, when the horses delivered beer to the White House, marking the end of Prohibition (and leading to some of the cutest Super Bowl commercials ever).

The tour is as follows:

11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, March 26, Salt River Fields, Loop 101 and Pima Road, Salt River Reservation.

5-7 p.m. Friday, March 27, Camelback Ranch, 10710 W. Camelback Road, Phoenix.

11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, March 28, Sloan Park, 2330 W. Rio Salado Parkway, Mesa.

10 a.m.-noon Sunday, March 29, Tempe Diablo Stadium, 2200 W. Alameda Drive.
