Letter: Thoughts and prayers won't stop shootings

A television photographer takes video of a memorial for the two slain journalist in front of the studios of WDBJ-TV7 in Roanoke, Va., Thursday, Aug. 27, 2015. Reporter Alison Parker and cameraman Adam Ward from the station were killed during a live broadcast Wednesday.

Again our thoughts and prayers go out to the fam... blah, blah, blah.

Is this is all we can do as a society? To console the victims? Can we not try to address the problem?

The gunman had a history of aggressive behavior at work to the point of having to call the police to remove him from the building when he was fired. He was labeled a disgruntled employee.

Fast forward. The gunman starts amassing guns and large quantities of ammunition. Wouldn’t it have been nice to know what this individual was up to? Apparently not in this country.

A registry cross referenced with a police log would have alerted officials what this individual was doing. But no, we will have none of that. But our thoughts and prayers... Pitiful.
