Gilbert Christian's Mitch Lightfoot gets a slam dunk against Arcadia in their Division II boys basketball championship game Monday, March 2, 2015 in Glendale.

Mitch Lightfoot, a 6-foot-9 junior forward who helped Gilbert Christian capture the Division II boys basketball state championship last season, says he has reopened his recruiting.

Last year, Lightfoot committed to New Mexico.

"I want to see what is out there," he said. "I was 16 and immature when I made the New Mexico commitment."

Lightfoot, who averaged 17.9 points, 9.7 rebounds, 6.8 steals and 4.8 blocks last season, said that Arizona State, under new coach Bobby Hurley, recently reached out to him.

Last year, Utah offered Lightfoot.

Gilbert Christian coach Kurt Keener believes Lightfoot is Pac-12 caliber.

"I think when a kid receives that kind of offer (from a Pac-12 school), others will come," Keener said.

Lightfoot's potential is unlimited.

"If he ever grows into his feet, he could be 7 feet," Keener said. "He jumps really well, anticipates really well on defense. He's a tough kid."

Lightfoot made azcentral sports' first-team All Division II last season.

He hasn't eliminated New Mexico, but, with bigger schools starting to come in on Lightfoot, he wants to explore things.

"I'm going to take my time with this," Lightfoot said. "I'm leaving the door open."
