The National Weather Service in Phoenix anticipated a busy evening of monsoon activity Wednesday evening, but storms failed to develop over the Valley.

The combination of heat, humidity and a weather disturbance moving over the state was expected to possibly produce storms with strong winds, blowing dust and locally heavy downpours, with the potential for flash flooding in some locations.

A blowing-dust advisory for much of the Phoenix area expired at 8 p.m., but remained in effect until 9 p.m. for areas along Interstate 10 in southern Pinal County near Eloy.

Scattered thunderstorms were moving north through southeastern Arizona on Wednesday night in areas near Tuscon.

These storms could bring heavy rain and hail, lightning, and flooding in some areas until 9:30 p.m., the Weather Service said.

A flood advisory was issued at 7 p.m. for several areas east of the Valley until 10 p.m.

For Thursday, the Weather Service predicts a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms, with cloudiness increasing Thursday night.
