3 things to do in Lake Havasu City

The Republic | azcentral.com
Barley Brothers Restaurant & Brewery in Lake Havasu City overlooks London Bridge.

As if boating, swimming and waterfront fun aren't enough reasons to visit Lake Havasu City in summer, here's another one. The Great Race, a vintage car marathon from Missouri to California, passes through June 26. You can take pictures, meet the drivers and admire all the shiny rides.

Eat

After a day of bouncing around the lake, settle in with a selection of hand-crafted brews at Barley Brothers Brewery. The Bighorn IPA is a well-hopped brew that tastes good with the margherita pizza, a thin-crust pie with tomatoes, mozzarella and fresh basil on whole-wheat dough. Or try the garlic pizza, topped with pesto, thinly sliced garlic, mozzarella and ricotta. The menu also has plenty of pub-style favorites.

Play

You know what's so great about the Great Race? Drivers in the cross-country competition — which starts in Kirkwood, Mo., and ends in Santa Monica, Calif. — make multiple stops to meet fans, show off their vintage and collector cars and drop in on beer gardens. Sure beats going around in circles for hundreds of miles. Meet drivers and take plenty of photos when the race pulls into Lake Havasu City. Yes, there will be a beer garden.

Details: The first cars should arrive around 4:45 p.m. Friday, June 26. Finish line is the Red Onion, 2013 McCulloch Blvd. North. Free. 928-453-3444, www.golakehavasu.com/events/details/1789.
