Gov. Ducey happily hops back into Koch brothers' pouch

The political world is cold and cruel, even in the desert Southwest, so when Gov. Doug Ducey was running for office he decided to climb into the very, very, VERY deep pockets of billionaire brothers David and Charles Koch.

It's a secure place for a needy politician, warm and dark and completely insulated by wads and wads of cash.

Back then Ducey attended a gold-plated "summit" at a beach resort in California where he gave a fawning speech in which he said in part, "I want to say thank you to Charles and David as well. I have been coming to this conference for years. It's been very inspirational."

We get it. The Koch brothers are powerful. They pretty much are the 1 percenters we keep hearing about. They run a business that is said to pull in about $100 billion per year and are willing to spend hundreds of millions on political campaigns, much of it through "dark money" groups. Every politician dreams of sugar daddies on that level.

An article by the Arizona Republic's Yvonne Wingett Sanchez notes that Ducey will be attending a Koch brothers event this weekend sponsored by something called Freedom Partners.

It's like a baby kangaroo returning to the pouch.

And we've got to give Ducey credit for proudly and publicly hop, hop, hopping to the belly of the brothers. I'm sure they appreciate the loyalty. Or is the more appropriate word "fealty?"

According to a statement from Ducey's spokesman: "Gov. Ducey is looking forward to this event. It's an excellent opportunity to engage with other advocates of limited government and free enterprise, including national business and policy leaders and elected officials from around the country."

Sounds like it's going to be overcrowded with politicians and hangers-on in the  Koch brothers' pouch, but it won't.

Like I said, the brothers' pockets are very, very, VERY deep.
