Another gun tragedy? When will America say "enough"?

Police say John Russel Houser killed two people in a crowded movie theater before killing himself.

Add two more to the ever-growing death toll as a result of our gun laws.

Or rather lack thereof.

Last month, it was Dylann Roof who was able to legally buy a gun because the FBI couldn't finish a background check on the guy within three days.

Roof went to buy the gun on Saturday, April 11, but couldn't get immediate approval under the National Instant Criminal Background Check System. Under federal law, the FBI has three business days to determine whether to deny a gun purchase and the FBI wanted to check Roof's criminal record.

Due to confusion over where Roof had been arrested six weeks earlier, the FBI examiner handling Roof's background check failed to get the police report in which he admitted to drug use -- an admission that would have disqualified him from buying the gun had the FBI found it in time.

When Roof returned to the gun store on April 16, he was able to buy the gun even though the FBI was still working on the background check and had listed his status as "delayed-pending."

The FBI's time was up and two months and one day later, so was the time of nine good men and women, cut down at a prayer meeting at the Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, S.C.

Logic would say that if a background check isn't complete, a gun sale ought to be delayed. However, the National Rifle Association would say otherwise and that's good enough for our leaders.

On Thursday, President Obama lamented his inability to enact some sensible reforms, to keep guns out of the hands of madmen.

Hours later, John Russell Houser killed two people and injured nine others in a Lafayette, La., movie theater before killing himself.

According to police, Houser had issues with domestic violence and in 2008, family members went to court seek protection due to Houser's "volatile mental state."

We don't yet know how he got a gun. What we do know, clearly, is that his "volatile mental state" wasn't enough to prevent it.

About 20 minutes into a movie at the Grand 16 Theater, he stood and fired 13 shots at people out on a Thursday night to relax..

The name of the movie was Trainwreck.

Sort of like our gun laws.
