Donate to needy schools. We did

Bob and Mary Turner
Under Arizona's tax-credit program, donors can direct a portion of their state income tax to a public school and get a dollar-for-dollar credit. It's a popular way for parents to pay the fees for their child's activities.

Throughout the years our grandsons were in junior high and high school, my wife and I directed our school tax credits toward the music program of their schools in east Mesa.

Their high school is consistently at or near the top in tax credits received. They are both attending ASU now so last year we decided to do some research to help a school district not quite as fortunate.

We chose a district in the far West Valley. Quite unexpectedly we received a thank you letter from the district superintendent and another letter from the school principal.

Obviously the pleasure was all ours. We encourage all Arizona residents whose family members no longer attend public schools to find out where the need is greatest and give them a small boost. We will continue this practice from now on.
