Gerber is recalling some of its organic baby food products in pouches after identifying a packaging defect that could result in "product spoilage" during transport and handling, according to a recall alert on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration website and Gerber.com.

Gerber baby food pouches affected by the recall have a "best by" date of July 12-14.

The affected 3.5-ounce pouches of Gerber Organic 2nd Foods contain either Pears; Carrots and Peas; or Carrots, Apples and Mangoes and have a "best by" date of July 12-14, 2016 and specific batch codes. Affected pouches may be bloated and the food may have an off taste or odor.

Gerber announced it is retrieving the remaining pouches (from four affected batches) from retailers and online stores. Parents with these pouches should not use them and are encouraged to call the Gerber Parents Resource Center at 1-800-706-0556 for replacement coupons.

Consumers can check all food recalls at the FDA website Foodsafety.gov.

The news follows a similar recall of non-organic Gogo Squeez applesauce pouches earlier this month.
