Phoenix police and family members of a 70-year-old hit-and-run victim are seeking answers about the driver who hit her while she was out walking on the evening of Feb. 5.

According to Phoenix police Officer James Holmes, Betty Carol Wiles was found lying in the street with critical injuries in the area of of 7300 West Indian School Road. Police received a 911 call just before 7 p.m.

Wiles had been seen walking on the sidewalk on the south side of Indian School Road, according to police. The victim's injuries indicate she was hit by a car, but there was little evidence at the scene.

One witness told investigators that a gold Chevrolet Silverado left the area around the time of the accident, but there were no witnesses to the accident.

Another witness reported to police that a red car stopped near Wiles. A male passenger dragged her from the middle of the road to the curb, the witness told police. The car and the man then left the scene, leaving Wiles lying near a gutter.

Police said they cannot confirm either of these cars was involved.

Wiles was taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries and, as of Wednesday, was in critical condition.

Family members on Thursday asked for the public's assistance in identifying a suspect and bringing the person to justice.

Phoenix police said anyone with information should call Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.
