When Gilbert Higley won the 5A boys volleyball state championship in 2018, it became just the 17th school to win a state championship in the sport in Arizona.

That's some pretty elite company to join.

The AIA didn't start boys volleyball until 1995 and it has been limited to one or two divisions.

So there hasn't been many trophies to pass around.

Of the 17 schools to take home a state title, just seven of them have won more than one state championship, led by Phoenix Mountain Pointe's seven titles.

Four schools have won three state titles, including Anthem Boulder Creek, which took home championships in three out of four seasons from 2014-17.
