Letter: How much am I saving by stiffing schools?

Frank Darmiento
Arizona Senate President Andy Biggs is not giving Arizona schools they money they require.

Arizona Senate President Andy Biggs is determined to protect my financial interests. He is not about to let the Legislature approve payment of over $1 billion legally required to be paid to Arizona schools.

These are funds approved by voters, but Sen. Biggs apparently knows we really didn’t mean it. He knows that saving tax dollars is more important to voters than saving our children’s education.

Now I’m curious as to how much Sen. Biggs is saving me. If we pay the schools the billion and a half dollars we owe, how much does this affect my tax bill? No one is presenting these numbers.

Is Sen. Biggs saving me $1,000 a year in taxes, or is it more like $10 a year? No one asked me what I’d be willing to pay. Personally, I’d have no problem with $100 in increased taxes if it went to improving our dismal education system.

So what is the real number, Sen. Biggs?
