A new Goodyear home will be given away to a military family in June, and there’s still time to apply to own it.

Scottsdale-based Meritage Homes is partnering with the non-profit Operation Homefront to donate a three-bedroom, two-bathroom house to an active military member or veteran.

The 2,278-square-foot West Valley home can be equipped features such as wider door frames for wheelchairs, a roll-in shower and lower light switches.

The deadline for applications to own the mortgage-free home is June 25. The family or person picked will receive the house’s keys on Veterans Day this year.

Last year, Marine Sgt. Patrick Martinez was selected for the Homes on the Homefront program in Arizona. His family of five now has a four-bedroom Tucson home built by Meritage.

"The new home has helped us get our finances in order and put money into savings to focus on our financial future," said Silva Martinez, his wife.

This is the fourth year Meritage is giving away new houses through the program. Operation Homefront is a San Antonio-based group that works to help build strong, stable and secure military families.

To apply for the home, visit Operation Homefront's website at www.homesonthehomefront.org.

Meritage is also donating a new house in Austin this year.

The Homes on the Homefront program began in 2012 and has since helped 550 veteran and military families get into mortgage-free houses.
