US Airways on Wednesday announced an increase in the reservation-change fees it charges most travelers holding non-refundable tickets. Change fees brought in $1.9 billion for U.S. airlines in the first nine months of 2012, according to a federal agency. • American Airlines is moving flight-attendant training to Texas.
  • Six Phoenix workers were offered jobs with the relocated facility.
  • About 2%2C200 attendants with the airline will remain based in Phoenix.

American Airlines is transferring its flight-attendant training and six workers from Phoenix to Texas as part of the consolidation of US Airways.

The company uses a Flight Training Center in Phoenix, as well as one in Charlotte, N.C., to train attendants, but will relocate both to the Fort Worth area, the company announced.

The announcement is another turn in the meticulous integration of the airlines, which merged in 2013 but maintain separate operations. The move meant the loss of a corporate headquarters in Tempe. Earlier this year American absorbed the US Airways frequent-flier program.

American has more than 2,200 active flight attendants based in Phoenix, who will remain here, the company said.

All six training workers in Phoenix and 13 in Charlotte have been offered positions in Texas, but an airline spokesman could not comment on how many have accepted the offers.

Some may choose to return to flying or to other positions within the company.

"Consolidating training for our flight attendants will make it a more consistent product and experience for all of our team members," the company statement said.

The workers train in classrooms, cabin simulators with seats and galleys,. and other facilities.

Phoenix workers will move in August while Charlotte workers will move next year. The Phoenix and Charlotte facilities will continue to train pilots.

"American Airlines remains committed to the Valley of the Sun," the company said.

The company said it is adding about 500 information-technology, customer relations, baggage, accounting and customer planning jobs in Arizona as part of the merger.
