Dust, rain hit Valley, but no major flooding reported

The National Weather Service issued a flash-flood warning for northwestern Maricopa County on Sunday evening, but major problems did not materialize.

Northwestern Maricopa County received approximately an inch of rain, but there was no major flooding reported, according to the National Weather Service.

The fiercest weather was reserved for the southern and western parts of the state. And more than 800 people were without power in Dewey and Prescott Valley on Sunday night due to the storm, according to Arizona Public Service Co.

Dust rolled into the Valley near South Mountain at about 4:30 p.m. In the East Valley, scattered rain and wind moved in from the southeast at about 3:30 p.m. Western Maricopa County was hit hard by rain around 4:40 p.m., the NWS said.

Western Arizona had isolated storms on Interstate 10 between mileposts 19 and 45, the NWS reported.

The Valley's flood advisory was lifted by 7 p.m. It came on the heels of significant weather and flood advisories for Pinal, Pima and Yavapai counties.

The NWS said it tracked a strong thunderstorm 8 miles south of Casa Grande that included 33 mph winds.

An estimated 1 inch of rain fell after 1:30 p.m. near Casa Grande and Arizona City. The NWS lifted flood advisories for Pinal and Pima counties just before 7 p.m..

Stanfield, Ak-Chin Village, Florence, Coolidge, San Tan Valley and Blackwater also faced possible flooding due to the thunderstorm activity, the NWS warned.

Central Coconino County was expected to experience strong thunderstorms 28 miles west of Flagstaff, with winds reaching 25 mph. Half-inch hail was expected in areas of Interstate 40 and U.S. 180, but no hail materialized, according to the NWS.

Large hailstones, three-quarters of an inch in diameter, and 50 mph gusts were reported near Salome, just east of Quartzsite in western Arizona.
