Why I’ll be voting yes on transit tax

Hayley Sayrs
A light rail car in Phoenix.

As a young professional who works in downtown Phoenix, I love the light rail.

Growing up in the D.C. metro area, I became accustomed to convenient, easily accessible, public transportation. In Phoenix, the light rail is the most efficient way to get downtown.

Since I was a child, I have always appreciated how public transportation allows me to interact with interesting people, most of whom rely solely on public transportation to commute to work.

PRO: Transportation tax will make Phoenix better

CON: Transportation tax benefits only a few

From Monday through Friday I ride my bike 5 miles to the nearest light rail stop. I am working hard to avoid purchasing a car and contributing to the endless amount of greenhouse gas emissions and traffic buildup here in Phoenix. Expanding the light rail and creating more bike lanes in the Valley would help me achieve this goal.

I care deeply about the health of our environment and the health of our Valley communities. I believe the health of a city is deeply rooted in its infrastructure and that is exactly why I will be voting yes on Proposition 104!
