Man found shot, killed in Phoenix overnight

Phoenix police are investigating a murder that occurred late Wednesday night near 44th Street and Broadway Road, officials said.

Officers responded to the scene after residents in the area reported hearing gunfire at about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, said Sgt. Tommy Thompson, a Phoenix police spokesman.

Police found a 23-year-old victim who was transported to the hospital where he died from his gunshot wounds, Thompson said.

Investigators have not released the victim's identity.

Witnesses reported seeing two men, about 18 to 22 years old, running from the scene, but it is not yet known if they were involved in the shooting, Thompson said.
