Roberts: A tragic day in Glendale

Glendale police are investing a Glendale school shooting.

Shots fired at a school.

The words send a chill straight to your heart as you brace yourself and silently say, not again.

Not again.

Thank God, it was not again as every one of us feared.

But it was no less a tragedy. Two 15-year-old girls are dead, a weapon found beside them. Police aren’t seeking any suspects.

Montini: Stop. Breathe. Mourn.

We don’t yet know what happened here or why. That will come, along with, I hope, some talk about what we can do to prevent this from happening again. About how we can do better by our children.

For now, speculation isn’t necessary. But recognition of a job well done certainly is.

What we do know is the Glendale police arrived at Independence High School within two minutes of getting the call, ready to confront whatever was waiting for them.

What we do know is that teachers immediately got students who were between classes into their classrooms, determined to keep them safe from whatever was out there.

What we do know is that a terrible tragedy has befallen one Valley high school and two Glendale families. Though it is not the tragedy we dreaded when we initially heard those words -- shots fired at a school -- it is a tragedy still.
