Protect Grand Canyon, don't allow eyesores on South Rim

The Republic | azcentral.com

Why would we need to put more development at the Grand Canyon?

Every year, millions of visitors enjoy the Canyon's beautiful and serene environment. Placing a gondola, hotels and shops in and around the Grand Canyon's South Rim would only be an unnecessary eyesore. Even the National Park Service sees the confluence development project as one of the most threatening human activities to the park in its 95-year history.

As an Arizona resident, sustainability graduate student and outdoor enthusiast, I hope our leaders will stand up against this ill-conceived project and take steps to permanently protect the Grand Canyon region from this and other harmful activities.
