Police say they are investigating the deaths of a recently divorced couple as a murder-suicide.

A woman in her 50s was found with fatal gunshot wounds Tuesday afternoon in a luxury home near 67th Avenue and Jomax Road, according to Sgt. Trent Crump, a Phoenix police spokesman.

A man, also in his 50s, was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Crump said. A handgun was next to him.

Crump said a 14-year-old girl came home to make the discovery at about 4 p.m. and called police. She found her stepfather in a bedroom and her mother in the garage, sitting in the driver's seat of a car that had multiple bullet holes in it, he said.

Police said neighbors heard gunshots around 7:30 Tuesday morning.

The couple had recently divorced and the stepfather was supposed to be out of the house within the next few days, Crump said.
