Tucson police: Infant girl dies after being left in car

Associated Press

TUCSON — Tucson police are investigating the death of a 7-month-old girl found unconscious after reportedly being left in a car for an extended period.

Sgt. Chris Widmer said a 911 caller at 5:19 p.m. Wednesday reported a child in a car. The girl died at a hospital.

Circumstances of the incident are still being investigated, but Widmer says the child had been left in the car a long time. Fire Department Capt. Barrett Baker says the 911 call indicated that the child had been in the car all day.

Widmer said the girl's father told officers he did not know the infant was in the car until, while driving, he noticed her unconscious in the back seat. He then pulled over to call 911.

Wednesday's high in Tucson was 89 degrees.
