Arizona Cardinals team president Michael Bidwill (left) and general manager Steve Keim are set for another coaching search.

The Cardinals conducted second interviews with two candidates for their head-coaching job on Friday and are expected to meet with other prospects next week, according to NFL sources.

Atlanta special teams coordinator Keith Armstrong and Panthers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks interviewed Friday. It was the second trip to the Valley to interview for Wilks and the first for Armstrong, whose first interview came in Atlanta.

Cardinals defensive coordinator James Bettcher remains in the running. Bettcher has been with the Cardinals for five seasons, so team President Michael Bidwill and General Manager Steve Keim don’t need a second interview with him before deciding on a candidate.

Armstrong and Bettcher have ties to Bruce Arians, who retired three weeks ago. Armstrong played for Arians at Temple, and Bettcher came to Arizona with Arians in 2013. Both Armstrong and Bettcher are represented by Arians’ son, Jake.

The Cardinals have interviewed three coaches whose teams play this weekend, and they will not be available until next week: Patriots linebackers coach Brian Flores, Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz and Eagles quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo.

The team apparently would like to talk to at least one of them again.

Coaches can’t be officially hired until their teams are out of the playoffs, so if the Cardinals’ choice goes to the Super Bowl, the official announcement of a new head coach won’t come until after that game.

But unofficial deals can be reached, even though it’s against NFL rules. The Lions (defensive coordinator Matt Patricia), Giants (Vikings offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur) and Colts (Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels) all reportedly have agreements in place.

The Cardinals and Titans are still conducting searches, but Wilks is the only candidate the two have in common, according to reports. Wilks interviewed for the Titans job on Thursday.

Arians, who coached the Cardinals the last four seasons, has recommended Bettcher and Armstrong.

Future deal

The Cardinals signed linebacker Praise Martin-Oguike to a contract for 2018, the team announced on Friday.

Martin-Oguike (6-1, 256) entered the league last year with the Dolphins as an undrafted rookie free agent from Temple. He didn’t make the team and was out football in 2017.

He played four years at Temple and was a two-year starter, appearing in 47 games (28 starts) with 124 tackles (80 solo), 18.5 sacks, one interception, 11 forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and two passes defensed.
