Arizona State's change to a clear bag policy for spectators at Sun Devil Stadium gets its first test Saturday during the football home opener against Northern Arizona.

Each fan is allowed to carry one clear bag no larger than 12x6x12 inches or a 1-gallon plastic storage bag. Prohibited bags include backpack, fanny pack, camera bag, oversized tote bag, diaper bag, binoculars case and mesh bag.

Small clutch bags, no larger than 4.5x6.5 inches, are allowed. So are factory-sealed individual plastic water bottles (1.5-liter or smaller) and an empty reusable plastic water bottle to fill once inside the stadium.

ASU is one of eight Pac-12 schools with a clear bag policy, which is similar to security measures used for Arizona Cardinals and Arizona Diamondbacks games.

“The policies we are implementing ensure security can easily identify personal belongings to get fans through the gates," ASU Vice President for Athletics Ray Anderson said.

Fans are encouraged to arrive early for the 8 p.m. kickoff because of the new bag policy and changes at the renovated stadium, now through two major phases of reconstruction. Those with non-compliant bags will be asked to return them to their vehicles because there is no check-in area for such items.

Entry on the north and south sides of the stadium is different than in the past. Fans can use Sun Devils Athletics' Find My Seat for more information on stadium access.

Medical bags are permitted and subject to inspection. Seat cushions and chair backs must be less than 18 inches in width and be without pockets, zippers, compartments and covers. Other items permitted as long as carried and not in a case are cameras, binoculars, smart  phones, tablets, blanket, jackets.
