Loop 101 westbound was closed for hours at Scottsdale Road on Monday afternoon after a fatal rollover crash, with delays extending several miles, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

The freeway was reopened about 5 p.m. Monday, according to ADOT and the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

The crash occurred at 1:12 p.m. on westbound Loop 101 east of 64th Street, according to Quentin Mehr, DPS spokesman.

James Millea, 61, of Glendale lost control of his pickup, and it rolled over several times. Millea, who was not wearing safety restraints, was ejected and died at the scene from his injuries, Mehr said.

Another major artery was reported closed in western Arizona on Monday afternoon.

Interstate 10 was closed in both directions about 29 miles east of Quartzsite because of a dust storm and crash. The freeway has partially reopened, but eastbound travelers were advised to use U.S. 60 to Phoenix.
