Montini: Did you hear Trump praise Putin again, Sen. McCain? Come on, man!

Come on, Sen. McCain. Speak up. Please.

Put this guy in his place like you did last year, before he was the Republican nominee, back when you spoke more bluntly, more honestly about the specter of Donald Trump being president.

He’s at it again, praising Russian President Vladimir Putin. Expressing admiration for him.

At the so called “commander-in-chief” forum Wednesday he said of Putin, “Certainly, in that system, he’s been a leader, far more than our president has been a leader. We have a divided country.”

He declined the opportunity to condemn Putin’s aggressions and atrocities.

Then he said, “Well, I think when he calls me brilliant, I think I’ll take the compliment, okay?”

Do you remember what you said about Trump’s love fest with Putin last December in a radio interview?

You said, “The thing that is so concerning about Mr. Trump’s compliments of Vladimir Putin is Vladimir Putin has slaughtered his own, murdered his own people, including people I knew. He has, his equipment has shot down an airliner and killed a couple hundred people…He’s a bully and thug and to pay a compliment to this KGB apparatchik murderer is something that I just can’t find in anyway plausible and is incomprehensible…For him (Trump) to provide propaganda, which is really what he just did for Vladimir Putin, who is a thug and a murderer, I think is really astonishing and shows either profound ignorance or an attitude that contradicts everything about the United States of America and our relations with our adversaries.”

Say it again, senator. Say it louder.

Keep saying it.

Because if your fear of saying anything that might anger Trump supporters and possibly impact your own reelection campaign means staying silent and supporting a man you’ve said displays “profound ignorance or an attitude that contradicts everything about the United States of America” then it’s not Trump who doesn’t understand what America is all about, it’s you.
