Las Vegas Caesars, Wynn hotels to charge for parking

Get ready to pay for parking at more hotels on the Las Vegas Strip.
Caesars Entertainment Corp., the casino hotel giant whose properties include Caesars Palace, Paris Las Vegas and Planet Hollywood, said late Tuesday that it will start charging for valet and self-parking at eight of its nine Las Vegas hotels. Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino just off the Strip is excluded.
And on Wednesday, Wynn Resorts said it will start charging for valet parking at its two Strip resorts, Wynn Las Vegas and Encore, in mid-December. Self parking will remain free at the luxury resort, at least for now. A spokeswoman said the company is monitoring the "impact of charging for self-parking.''
The moves were widely expected following a similar initiative by rival MGM Resorts International this year, which ended Las Vegas' longstanding tradition of free parking.

Caesars is phasing in its parking fees beginning Dec. 19. Valet parking fees will debut that day at The Linq Hotel & Casino and Harrah's Las Vegas, two of its most affordable hotels. The fee, which applies to casino visitors and hotel guests, will be $8 for up to four hours and $13 per 24 hours beyond that, including overnight stays. Self-parking will remain free at the two hotels, the chain said, until the necessary equipment is installed.
The new valet fee means that guests at those bargain hotels will occasionally pay more in fees than they pay for the room. Caesars' website shows a $39 sale rate for a mid-week stay before Christmas. Added to that: the optional $13 valet parking fee and nightly $29 resort fee. Resort fees are those mandatory nightly charges that cover things like Internet service. They are prevalent at hotels and resorts up and down The Strip and in resort markets including Phoenix and Scottsdale.

Valet parking at Flamingo Las Vegas also will cost $8 for up to four hours and $13 per 24 hours beyond that. Valet parking at Caesars Palace, Bally's, The Cromwell, Paris and Planet Hollywood will be $13 for up to four hours and $18 per 24 hours beyond that. Caesars said the valet parking charges at those hotels will begin by early 2017 but did not release dates.

Caesars said self-parking fees will debut in the first half of 2017 at Caesars Palace, Harrah's, Flamingo, Bally's and Paris, but start dates were not released. Caesars said those hotels are awaiting new "parking guidance systems.''
