Goodyear will hold elections for mayor and three City Council seats this spring.

The primary election on Tuesday, March 14, is all mail-in, meaning that ballots will be mailed to every registered voter in the city and there won't be polling places open on election day.

Voters must complete the ballot, sign the affidavit on the envelope, and mail it back or drop it off in person in one of the designated locations.

A general election, if necessary, is slated for Tuesday, May 16.

Here's how the races have shaped up:

Contested mayoral race

Mayor Georgia Lord and former mayor Jim Cavanaugh will face off for the mayor's post.

Cavanaugh, 75, was first elected mayor in 2003 and served 2½ terms before abruptly quitting in November 2010. Lord, 78, finished Cavanaugh’s term, was re-elected in 2013 and seeks a second full term as mayor.

3 council seats, 5 candidates

Council members Wally Campbell and Joe Pizzillo are vying to retain their seats on the seven-member council. Pizzillo has been on the council since 2009. Campbell was first elected in 2011.

Councilwoman Sharolyn Hohman did not file for re-election, meaning there will be at least one new face on council.

Those could be candidates Brannon Hampton, Jayson Black or Sara Gilligan.

Hampton ran for the council in 2013 and works at Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station, west of Buckeye.

Black is the principal of Incito Schools, a K-8 charter school in Goodyear.

Gilligan was a competitive figure skating coach in San Diego.

Candidates need 50 percent of the votes plus one vote to secure the seat.
