Report: Child's severed head found on Navajo Reservation
GANADO — Authorities say an infant's remains have been found on the Navajo Reservation in Arizona.
The Gallup (New Mexico) Independent reports that Navajo Police Chief Phillip Francisco said a child's severed head was found Monday in a field in the Ganado area.
Francisco told the newspaper the FBI is investigating and he didn't have additional details.
Francisco's office says he's attending the funeral Thursday of a Navajo Nation police officer fatally shot on duty.
The FBI gave The Arizona Republic a statement saying "partial remains of an infant child" were found in the Ganado area.
The statement said cause of death wasn't known, and law-enforcement agencies will continue to investigate.
In a statement given to the Independent, the FBI said authorities had information that they hoped would lead to "a rapid resolution to the investigation."
