Montini: Four Arizona Republicans vote to let Puerto Ricans die

Puerto Rican woman stands amid the ruins of her home.

It’s simple, really.

You can dress it up in different ways, make excuses, or try to confuse the issue by saying it was about economics, but it wasn’t. It was about human beings. It was about suffering.

And four Republican congressman from Arizona voted to allow who knows how many hurricane-ravaged Americans to die.

They voted against an aid package to Puerto Rico, something ultimately needed for the survival of American citizens living on that decimated island.

The bill passed anyway.

The House of Representative voted 353-69 to approve $36.5 billion in emergency relief for Puerto Rico and other disaster areas.

All 69 "no" votes came from Republicans.

Perhaps they were taking a hint from President Donald Trump, a man who has lived in the penthouse (and now the White House) all his life. A man who has never known hunger. Poverty. Deprivation. Destruction. Or even inconvenience.

A man who has never spent days or months without power or potable water.

Yet who tweeted:

All of Arizona’s Democrats voted for the aid bill. As did Republican Rep. Martha McSally.

Voting against assistance for suffering AmericansAmericans – were Reps. Andy Biggs, Trent Franks, Paul Gosar and David Schweikert.

Arizona's own four horsemen of the apocalypse.
