Former UNLV forward Savon Goodman commits to ASU basketball
Savon Goodman, a former four-star prospect, committed to Arizona State on Saturday. Goodman, who can play both forward positions, has three years to play three and is eligible immediately. He chose the Sun Devils over Oklahoma.
Goodman, 6-foot-6 and 215 pounds, began his career at UNLV, averaging 3.6 points and 2.4 rebounds as a freshman in 2012-13. He left the Runnin' Rebels, the next season, however, following an off-season arrest. Goodman eventually pleaded guilty to petty theft and trespass charges. He spent last season at Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, Iowa, but didn't play. His coach, Barret Peery, recently joined Herb Sendek's ASU staff as an assistant.
Goodman's commitment provides frontcourt help for the Sun Devils, a poor rebounding team last season that lost leading rebounder Jordan Bachynski. With 12 scholarship players, ASU will look to add one more player. Connors State College forward Willie Atwood, a NJCAA third-team All-American, visited ASU this weekend and attended the Spring Game at Sun Devil Stadium.
Atwood has a final four of ASU, Iowa, Florida State and Memphis. He could make a decision next week.
